These issues of proper argumentation are relevant in the modern day in every courtroom in the US and around the world. The US Supreme Court openly asked that rhetoric be taught again in colleges since many lawyers are not trained on the proper way to argue. I had an engineering college undergrad and had to buy the "Great Courses" series of lectures on "Rhetoric" to learn these lessons after the fact.
