First of all, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year on behalf of the Plato’s Academy Centre. And thank you all for all of the support you are giving the nonprofit. 2023 was a great year for us. My wife, Kasey, or communications director - despite having a baby! - worked tirelessly to build our network of authors and speakers, collaborating with publicists from leading publishing houses to secure exclusive content for the Plato’s Library section of our newsletter.
Our program of events expanded, and we ran five virtual events on topics as diverse as Philosophy and Politics, Marcus Aurelius, Emotional Resilience, Seneca, and Philosophy and Death. These were attended by a grand total of well over five thousand participants! We’re very pleased, therefore, that we’re now able to offer leading authors the assurance that they will be reaching a significant-sized audience by speaking at our future events. We are also working to recycle excerpts from these events as audio content for our new podcast, which is already reaching up to 4,000 listeners per episode.
We established a new partnership with The Hellenic Initiative, a nonprofit which raises funds internationally to support crisis relief and entrepreneurial skills training in Greece. We wanted to begin early in our project to demonstrate that we are able to give something back for the benefit of Greece, and have donated 15% of the net revenue from our previous virtual event to THI. We plan to do the same in the future.
Finally, I want to remind you about our forthcoming special event on Philosophy and Children. Around 200 people have already registered in advance. We’re delighted to now be able to announce the full program of speakers, which includes some leading experts in the field.
Thanks, from myself and the other directors, as always for your support. Plato’s Academy Centre is a nonprofit startup, with an ambitious vision. We couldn’t do this without your help!
Wishing you all the best for the New Year,
Donald Robertson
President of the Plato’s Academy Centre
